The Dixieland All-Stars have been performing as a group since 1989. Doug smith first organized the band to fill an opening at the 70-year-old historic resort, Skytop Lodge in the Pocono Mountains of Pennsylvania. The group soon found themselves in demand for concerts, festivals and Mardi Gras celebrations. The All-Stars is composed of northeast Pennsylvania’s finest Dixieland/Jazz performers, many of who lead their own bands. Mr. Smith is a rostered artist with the Pennsylvania council on the Arts and is very busy performing in the public schools system, conducting educational programs, which combine the multicultural history of Dixieland music and the structure of the art form itself. The All-Stars take a modern approach to Dixieland music, while retaining the deep traditional roots of the idiom.
