The North Pocono Steel Drum Band

The North Pocono Steel Band Project, founded in 2006, consists of experienced student musicians coupled with other high school students playing musical instruments for the first time. This arrangement fulfills the mission of the group, namely to provide a quality musical performance experience for students of all abilities. The ensemble plays music of various styles including traditional island songs, jazz standards, show tunes, and pop dance music. The group performs on authentic hand made and tuned steel drums. The instrumentation includes lead tenors, double seconds, double cellos, and six basses. The steel “pans” are accompanied by the “engine room” or percussion section, consisting of drum set, congas, bongos, and a multitude of various rhythm instruments.
