Scranton Jazz Festival Relocates to Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel

Grammy Award Winners The Average White Band to open the festivities (2007-07-19)
PITTSTON , PA (WVIA) – Scranton Jazz Festival organizers announce that the third annual Scranton Jazz Festival will take place at the historic Radisson Lackawanna Station Hotel in downtown Scranton Aug. 3 through 5.

The popular music festival was previously held at Nay Aug Park’s Hanlon’s Grove.

Grammy-award winning performers The Average White Band will headline Friday’s opening night festivities.

In addition, WVIA will broadcast the opening night program live on its radio station, 89.9 FM, and will stream from its website at www.wvia.org. and on Saturday, WVIA-TV will televise Saturday’s highlights at 10 p.m. WVIA radio host George Graham will emcee all three days at the new location.

The new facility will accommodate our audience with newly remodeled rooms, an outdoor amphitheater as well as the finest in food and drink, said festival artistic director Marko Marcinko.

This year’s lineup features international jazz, blues and world beat artists such as West Coast jazz vocalist Tierney Sutton and her Grammy-nominated band; France’s The Moutin Reunion; an all-alumni big band tribute to jazz legend Maynard Ferguson and the Marko Marcinko Latin Jazz Quintet to name just a few.

Also this year, the Scranton Jazz Fest will introduce its first student jazz ensemble that will focus on small jazz combos. Students will be selected from the Lackawanna/Luzerne County region and its surrounding areas. Tickets for this event are $15 a day or $40 for all three days.
