Artistic Director for the Scranton Jazz Festival, Marko Marcinko has been carrying out his staunch, all-embracing musical career since age 14. Being a part of a musical family, you can say Marko’s love and want to learn more about the art, was already dyed-in-the-wool at a young age. Marko credits his playing style and musical touch to Professor Steve Bagby, Joe Morello and Steve Rucker three of his great teachers. Marko graduated with a BM in music performance from The University of Miami and was touring through out the world by this time. After college he joined Maynard Ferguson’s Big Bop Nouveau Band touring the US, Europe, South America, Canada and recording for Concord Records. For the past 14 years Marko has been a member of the NEA Jazz Master Dave Liebman Group and The Dave Liebman Big Band. With a multitude of awards and Grammy nominations The DLG has been recognized as one of the most innovative groups touring and recording today. Marko is also an adjunct professor at Penn State University and Keystone College. Marko is a Yamaha, Zildjian, Vic Firth and Aquarian Drum Heads endorser. The MMLJQ delivers an upbeat mix of Latin and Brazilian jazz flavors. The quintet was formed in 2007 and features conga master Bob Velez, guitarist Bill Washer, bassist Paul Rostock, saxophonist/flutist Tom Hamilton, and drummer/percussionist Marko Marcinko. Each member has a long history with the Latin jazz tradition, from touring and performing with the likes of Latin jazz legends and multi Grammy award winning performers such as, Tito Puente, Machito, Arturo Sandoval, Gato Barbieri, Charlie Sepulveda, and Paquito D’Rivera. The various members of this high-energy traditional Latin jazz quintet keep this musical style on fire and alive.
