The Four Freshmen are one of the most iconic influential jazz vocal ensembles of all time. As vocalists and instrumentalists this four-member band had such hits as Route 66, Day by Day and It’s A Blue World. A major influence for Brian Wilson and the Beach Boys as well as a modern vocal quartet that modeled its vocal sound after the Stan Kenton’s trombone section and collaborated with the Stan Kenton Orchestra on many occasions. Two monumental recordings with the Stan Kenton Orchestra are: Live at Butler University, and The Road Show. The award-winning Scranton Jazz Festival Big Band directed by Marko Marcinko will recreate this incredible “Kenton” sound with the Four Freshmen on Sunday Aug 7th at the Ritz Theater.
